IPOD Repair

DIY IPOD repair is not as difficult as it may seem. Basic problems can be troubleshot at home and with limited tools. However, more advanced issues like electronic circuitry require the intervention of a professional and should not be attempted at home.

The first DIY IPOD repair step is to check the battery is fully charged, switch it off and on to see that the basic electronics are working. Then troubleshoot by doing the following:

Mac Os (5th gen. /Nano + 2nd gen. /Mini +2nd gen./Photo/Click/Dock/Original)

  • Turn off
  • Hold menu/select until logo appears (6 to 10 sec.)
  • Try with other USB port in computer or laptop
  • Restart
  • Update or reinstall iTunes software
  • Open new software
  • Connect to computer again
  • Check if working properly
  • If not restore
  • Reinstall latest version of iTunes
  • Open iTunes/connect to computer
  • Select iPOD in source list
  • Click restore in settings tab

Mac Os (Shuffle + 2nd gen.)

  • Eject from desktop of iTunes
  • Remove from USB port
  • Turn off
  • Hold menu/select until logo appears (6 to 10 sec.)
  • Try with other USB port in computer or laptop
  • Restart
  • Update or reinstall iTunes software
  • Open new software
  • Connect to computer again
  • Check if working properly
  • If not restore
  • Reinstall latest version of iTunes
  • Open iTunes/connect to computer
  • Select iPOD in source list
  • Click restore in settings tab

Windows (5th gen. /Nano + 2nd gen. /Mini +2nd gen./Photo/Click/Dock/Original)

  • Turn off

  • Try with other USB port in computer or laptop
  • Restart
  • Update or reinstall iTunes software
  • Open new software
  • Connect to computer again
  • Check if working properly
  • If not restore

  • Select iPOD in source list
  • Click restore in settings tab
